Ole Gnarly

A very old blown down tree reputed to be over 1000 years old. You can find the tree I nicknamed "Ole Gnarly" driving through picturesque Crows Nest Pass through the Canadian Rockie Mountains into the interior. Its beautiful and full of history. On average, at least twice a week gale force winds exceeding 120km/hr rip through the ancient pass from the Pacific coast and mercilessly batter everything in its path. The Indigenous name for this phenomenon is "Chinook" and it's powerful gusts and warming effects frequently melts snow in the dead of winter across the prairie as far away as Manitoba.
